A Simple Motivation "Hack" for Personal Change | Letter to a Friend #11

What's up friend,

Well, I half-failed, half-succeeded. I didn't upload two videos this week as promised, BUT I did just upload one, titled "Lessons From My First Year of Therapy". Check it out if ya want.

Not gonna lie, the public accountability of putting it in this newsletter really helped. Nobody even called me out for it (except one friend who asked about it a couple days ago). Just the fact that I said I would do it in a public place was enough to be in the back of my mind pushing me to do it.

Since it worked so well, I'll do it again: One more video by the end of this week.

(Psst: Hint hint, this is when you decide to make your own public commitment).

Seriously, just tell a few friends that you're going to do something you've been putting off for a while. I did it with something else earlier this week as well, which was telling a few of my close friends (who I knew would hold me to my word) that I'm quitting vaping and that if I vape again anytime in the next 4 months I have to donate $100 to ISIS.

There have already been multiple times where I think I would have caved if I had not made that public commitment. Shame is a great motivator.

After a semester of letting myself go a bit, it feels amazing to tighten up the ship again, set big goals and take my health very seriously. I feel excited to push myself and raise the standards for my life, and I of course encourage you to do the same.

Nobody is going to raise the standards for your life but yourself. If you want something, it is on you to get it, and if you don't do it now you likely never will.

Ok, enough motivational speaking (I've been listening to too much Tony Robbins again). Hope you're doing well and I'll see ya next week.

Much love,
Ryan
