Becoming a Cult Leader | Ryan's Ramblings #?
December 20, 2021
Hey all!
It's been a minute since I've used this - y'all probably forgot you even signed up for this lil newsletter. I'm getting back into this whole content creation thing and am planning on reviving this newsletter as well.
I want to keep it casual and just share what I've been up to/exploring in the hopes that maybe you'll find it interesting as well.
This week has been wrapping up the last of finals for me and I'm heading out to California today for some family time (not quite making it all the way out to Hawai`i unfortunately). One of my goals for the winter break is to do a deep dive on crypto and web3 and how it applies to me as a content creator, which is what this update will focus on and probably the next handful if I'm being honest.
There's a ton of super cool stuff going on in the crypto space, and if you have any interest in creating content online and building any kind of personal brand (or not), crypto and web3 tools are definitely something to look into.
I'm most interested in the idea of a social token, or creating a community around, as egotistical as it may sound, myself (cult leader?). The point is, instead of just building an audience of subscribers or followers who would just comment on my videos and maybe send me an email or two, we'd actually interact together as a group, talk online and even meet up in person.
As a community member (someone who holds my "token"), you'd get to meet and interact with me and other people who like my content, which means you as a viewer would meet cool people, contribute to my mission, and even benefit financially from any growth I experience.
A personal goal of mine is to recreate my own version of FIt For Service, the community I joined earlier this year and the reason I traveled to Costa Rica. I loved the community that the program provided and have realized that a tight knit community (or "tribe", as many people nowadays call it) is a crucial element to my overall well-being.
I made a video talking a bit about this idea of building a community, which you can check out here, but here is also a great article talking about the idea in more detail with some existing use cases.
I was going to do a few points but honestly this update is probably long enough already, so I'll cut it here. I'll probably make another video (or ten) on these ideas, anyways.
Thanks for tuning in and reading this far if you did! I hope you got something out of it.
See ya next time!
- Ryan
P.S. Shameless plug to check out my new video on Why I'm Leaving the US After College if you haven't already ;)
