Non-Psycho Doomsday Prepping | Letter to a Friend #6
March 13, 2022
Hey Friend,
Woops, I'm a lil late (only a month). Hope you aren't holding your breath for these newsletters.
I'm in Colombia. Yep, just can't get enough of Latin America. I just spent 3 days on a farm up in the mountains decompressing at this lovely AirBnb run by an older couple, Carlos and Sonia. Sweetest Colombians I've ever met, and I've met like ten Colombians now, sooo....
Anyways, let's get serious.
This whole Russian invasion situation is small kine freaking me out. Not because of the specifics, per se, but because for a long time (I mean literally since I was 12) I have lived with the expectation that "things are going to change in a big way", meaning new world superpowers and monetary systems, countries' internal systems changing via revolutions and/or civil wars, etc.
In other words, shit is going to go down. And while I've intellectually believed it will happen "sometime soon" for a long time, the fact that it is actually starting in a semi-serious way is hitting me harder.
However, I don't think that what's happening is anything new, rather just new to me (and others in the past few generations). Truth is, we've been living in an atypically peaceful time in history. Our ancestors went through a lot worse shit than we ever have, and knowing this makes me less afraid of the chaos that may be coming.
If they could make it, so can we.
Ray Dalio speaks about this "changing world order" a lot, and if you are interested to learn more about the cycles of empires and world orders throughout the last ~500 years in order to better prepare for future events, I'd highly recommend watching his new video summarizing his latest book, Principles for Dealing With the Changing World Order.
There's a difference between a full-blown conspiracy theorist preparing for doomsday and calmly doing what you can to ensure that shifting superpowers and monetary systems have limited negative impact on your life.
That's what I tell myself, at least, and I strive to do the latter. I'm considering making some videos on the subject of "rational preparedness" (or whatever you want to call it), so keep an eye out for those, although they might be a while (Colombian adventuring is the priority atm).
That's all for today. Hope ya enjoyed and I hope I didn't freak you out with the prepper talk!🙂
Take care and see you next week.
Much love,
Ryan
